How To Decide Between Netbooks Or Notebooks
With the technology changing so much from one day to the next where computers are concerned, the choices can be many. With the introduction of the Netbook, now we are asking ourselves "Netbooks or Notebooks". I wanted to know what was the difference between the two.
After doing a little research, this is what came up with for reasons that most people made the decision to go Netbook or Notebook. I know just by sight that the Netbooks are smaller than the Notebooks. That is the most obvious difference; but what other features are making these compact computers so appealing?
The first difference I noticed was that most new Notebooks come with the Windows Vista operating system. While most people I talked with expressed their displeasure with this system, there are some Netbooks that do come with the new Windows 7 or Windows XP. Having no experience with either, I can't comment on the differences as a user.
I think that the first appeal to most people about the Netbooks is their size. With our busy lives and the constant moving we are doing on a daily basis, it's nice to have a compact laptop. The Netbooks easy portability is a plus while they still provide us some of the functions of our desktops or laptops but without the speed we are used to.
LCD screen's on the Netbooks are anywhere from 5.5" to 10.5 or 11". This is much smaller than today's Notebooks. While this works for some, many business executives are finding this to be a problem.
Many of the Netbooks are internally equipped with cameras and microphones allowing for the use of Skype without any external equipment. However, they do not come with a DVD/CD drive. That would be an issue if you wanted to install new software.
Without a CD/DVD driver, you might have the added expense of purchasing an external hard drive for storing data. That cost will need to be added to the lower price Netbook which will increase the money spent. A standard Notebook might cost the same when you add these costs together, right?
If you depend on your laptop to be productive in the field, then a Netbook should probably not be your choice. Hauling a portable device like a CD/DVD drive everywhere does not make much sense. We have cell phones; laptops and whatever else needed for our busy workday, why drag unnecessary items around if you don't need to?
Laptops come in all shapes and sizes and the market pricing varies considerably. Making a decision about which one will work for you is a personal choice. Just be sure to weigh the options of both choices and remember that there are a lot of refurbished resellers like Sony, Dell and Panasonic so check those out as well.
